Brian Sanderson and Kevin DeTurris named principals of Blankingship & Keith

DeTurris-Sanderson-PrincipalsBrian R. Sanderson and Kevin F. X. DeTurris have become principals with the law firm of Blankingship & Keith, P.C., effective Jan. 1, 2017.

Sanderson joined Blankingship & Keith after practicing for 18 years with another local firm.  He is a veteran litigator who has tried cases to verdict in all of the local courts, including the federal courts. His practice is concentrated primarily in the representation of individual and institutional healthcare providers. He has defended the largest hospitals in the District of Columbia and Virginia, as well as community hospitals, emergency care centers, long-term-care facilities, specialty and primary care practice groups, individual physicians, and other licensed healthcare professionals. Sanderson also counsels clients regarding credentialing and disciplinary issues, Department of Health Profession proceedings, patient confidentiality, consent issues, and general risk management matters. In addition to healthcare liability, his experience includes defending products liability, legal malpractice and premises liability claims. 

Sanderson is a member of the Fairfax Bar Association, Defense Research Institute and Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys, Medical Malpractice Section. He received his law degree from the Antonin Scalia Law School (formerly George Mason University School of Law) in Arlington, Virginia, and his undergraduate degree from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

DeTurris is an experienced first-chair trial attorney with who has successfully represented clients in all of the local federal and state trial courts, Supreme Court of Virginia, Maryland Court of Special Appeals, and 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. He regularly litigates complex business disputes involving breach of contract, labor agreements, fraud, conspiracy and a host of other business torts. His experience spans several industries, including real estate, construction, banking, trusts and estates, and technology.  DeTurris has substantial experience in real estate litigation, involving the use of property, construction disputes, mechanics liens, trespass and nuisance cases, and landlord-tenant matters. He has a particular focus on litigating property use and valuation cases.

DeTurris is a member of the Virginia Bar Association, Virginia State Bar Association and Fairfax Bar Association, where he served as president and past president of the Young Lawyers Division. He received his law degree from the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., and his undergraduate degree from the University of Rhode Island in Kingston.
